Screening day - The never ending line ……………………

No matter what country we are in, Screening day is always pretty tough.

Here is a short clip from the documentary I am going to be in,
of last years screening day.
It gives a good insight into what screening day is like for all of us.

This year Congo was no different.
We woke up at the crack of dawn and began the nervous drive to the screening site.
You know you have a long day ahead when you drive past a massive line of people already waiting...

This year screening was at Lycee Victor Augagneur School.

I have honestly never seen so many people people waiting in line.
It is hard to show you how big this line actually was because it doesn't fit into
one shot, but trust me it was long.......
Over 7000 people long...

The line went on and on and on and on and on…

There are always those that stand out in the long lone line...

The day always flies by for me… (this is honestly what it feels like)

Even though it's super busy for us, I can only imagine what it must feel like for all those waiting in line…

Lots and lots of waiting…

That is why we try as much as possible to love on all those we come in contact with...

Screening day works a little like this…
First there are the pre-secreeners who go through the long long line and send away all those we clearly can't help.

For those we can't help we have a prayer team who comfort and pray for them.

For those who make it passed the pre-screeners, their details are gathered and then sent to the different specialty areas.

I was at the Ortho station...

It's always super tough having to make all those final tough decisions...

This was one of the toughest screening days I have been a part of because we had to see sooooooooooooooo many people. I remember at one point during the day it felt like I had said "no" for about an hour straight without saying "yes" to one person. I just couldn't take saying "no" anymore so I had to get some of the others to deliver the news. I guess that's why we have a team.

All in all we saw a ridiculous amount of people...
It was a long day that flew by...
We had to say "no" to a lot of people but we also said "yes" to a lot too.

One thing I always try and remember after screening day is that God is Good and really does have a plan for every single one of us. Sometimes that is us helping patients and sometimes it is not. And for those we can't help, we love them, pray for them and hand them back into God's trustworthy hands.

God is good, especially on screening day :)

What's next...
The ship gets full of patients :)
